As a result of his 2007 journey to New York and its aftermath, Dutch hiphop producer EL Pres is releasing his debut vinyl Glenwood Hostel EP. The EP contains seven tracks of sample based beats, dope lyrics and turntable wizardry, featuring collaborations with New York underground mc's Nut-Rageous aka Nutso, Jak Danielz (Cold Heat), Starvin' B (Mudd Brothers), Creature (Infesticons, Triflicts)and former unsigned hype (Source Magazine) Marvalous. On a quest to find mc's to bless his beats EL Pres went on a trip to NYC in 2007. Armed with a collection of mixtapes featuring classic hiphop acapellas over his own original production (EL Pres' Remixtape), EL Pres and longtime friend DJ Hassle (Tokyo) booked a flight to hiphop's mecca. Out of the connections that were built during their three week stay in NYC now comes the Glenwood Hostel EP.
The beats are heavily influenced by the top producers of the nineties, such as Premier, Pete Rock, Rza and Showbiz. They are all about the art of diggin' in the crates for fat samples. Staying true to the game EL Pres crafted a collection of beats with a wide variety of influences. The lyrics by the different mc's deal with subjects such as the struggle (15 Cents and Movin'), love (Get U Goin'), unhealthy partying (The Morning After) and braggin' and boastin' (We Ring Bells). All of the lyricists' performances are executed with total respect for the tradition of New York rap. The scratches on the EP are performed by a selection of some of the best DJ's on the battle scene in the Netherlands. The main aim of the EP is to represent the different disciplines of hiphop music to the fullest and promote it in its purest form.
