77 Records was set up in 1957 by Doug Dobell in his bookshop at 77 Charing Cross Road, London. 77 had recorded some of the up and coming musicians of the day, such as young Bob Dylan (as Blind Boy Grunt), drummer Ginger Baker and saxophonist Tubby Hayes. Doug died in 1987 and had been one of the major movers and shakers on the British jazz, blues and folk scene.
